Do politically active Christians understand the armor of God? Judging by the words from Ron DeSantis and people’s reactions to those words, I’m sad to say that, in far too many cases, the answer is no.
If God is for us, who can be against us? It’s a question that sounds like the answer is “No one can be against us if God is for us!” At least it’s probably an answer some Christians agree with. But guess what? That’s not the right answer. Come to think of it, it’s not even the right question. Even if it is a quote from the Bible and a line from a popular Christian song.
When we left Jonah in part 2 of this series, he was just vomited onto dry land by the great fish God send to bring Jonah back to Him. It seems there’s a great lesson, pun intended, that Christians need to learn about God from Jonah. Something that kind of reminds me a bit of a scene from Star Wars. The thinking behind “Let the Wookie win” is quite different from the contest of wills between God and Jonah. And yet, the idea of “Let God win”, is just so striking.
Sometimes I wonder, is there anybody here but me? The world’s such a big place. And there are so many people. And yet, it can also feel so alone. In a similar way, we Christians believe in such a big God. He’s everywhere, we believe. And yet, sometimes it can feel so alone. Does that mean God’s not as big as we think? Or that He maybe doesn’t even exist?
I’ve started several times to write something like this. But it’s never gotten very far. However, with things around the world deteriorating, maybe it’s time to try again? This time, it’s in the form of a question. Government christianity or Jesus’ Christianity. Which do you want? I know, some of you want to answer neither. But that’s not a choice. We’ll see why not in a moment.
Let’s have a contest. The First Amendment versus the Greatest Commandment. Which is more important to Christians? Let me rephrase that. Which should be more important? It’s the Greatest Commandment, isn’t it? Or did I miss something?
Guns don’t kill people. People kill people. I’m sick of hearing guns don’t kill people, people kill people. The logic behind that is so flawed. And the results of people who say it and/or believe it are more and more people dying. People die because people use guns to kill people!
What do the Great Commission and plastics have in common? No, it’s not nothing. It would be really weird to ask the question and then immediately end by saying, “Nothing”. So think again. What is it?
Do humans matter? Do you think you really matter? Hopefully, you answered yes to both questions. If you did, here’s some affirmations that you’re correct. But if you didn’t, here’s some things to consider and hopefully change your answer!
Does Christianity really say wives submit to your husbands? Well, that depends. The English words say that. Unless we take the time to read the rest of the sentence in which they occur. If we turn to the spirit of the words, no, it doesn’t necessarily say that at all. I ask because I was going to write about something totally different today. That is, until I read the headline – Grace Community Church Leaders under Fire for ‘Excommunicating’ Wife Who Refused to Stay with Abusive Husband. That is, in a word, disgusting! And it’s a misuse of the verse in question. So, in another word, it’s wrong.
